Week 16-The Hope of a New Year

Happy New Year!!!!!!!! I can't believe it's already 2017!! I'm excited to see what this year will bring! It's my "black out year" meaning I'll be a missionary the whole time. That's crazy!! But I'm so pumped!! I can't wait to see what the Lord has in store for me!!

This week was great! We've been finding a lot more of the elect and strengthening our relationships with the members of our ward. I love this area! We have transfers in two weeks and I hope I stay. We can feel a change coming...we just don't know what! I'm excited to see what God has planned for me next transfer. I know wherever I go will be exactly where I need to be. BUT if I could pick, I would love to stay here another transfer! It truly is a little piece of heaven.

Last night we gave a church tour to our super awesome Islamic friend, Aman, who's from Afghanistan. It was his first time ever being in a church. It was so beautiful to see our church through his eyes. It definitely strengthened my testimony and love for where we worship every Sunday. Something we talked about is how our church isn't very "flashy", how it's simple, yet beautiful. My companion explained that it's because we like to focus on the spirit that is felt within the building rather than the building itself. I love that.

Yesterday we had a lesson with our new investigator, Jonathan. It was amazing!! We could feel him coming closer to Christ the whole time, you could see it on his face. It was beautiful. He use to meet with the missionaries when he lived in Utah but that was years ago. We found him a couple weeks ago during KO and he said that some Elders had randomly knocked on his door that morning as well. I love overlapping with the English missionaries because so often people will mention how they've talked to two boys like us a few days ago. And how they might not have been receptive to them but then they'll be receptive to us. And vice versa. It's always a testament to me of how the Lord truly is guiding us to where we need to be. Every night we pray and plan where to knock, and who to visit, based on the prompting of the Spirit. I love it! Christ truly is guiding us!

One of my favorite things is to watch people start to soak in the gospel. To see the gears turning in their minds as they start to realize the truthfulness of this message. The Spirit testifies of truth, and truth is clarity and I love helping others realize that. They'll say "that makes sense" and then we can testify of how it's the Spirit confirming our message. It's always an amazing experience!

Something I studied this morning that I've been thinking a lot about is how much we ask of God and how little He asks in return. Mosiah 4:19 says, "For behold, are we not all beggars? Do we not all depend upon the same Being, even God, for all the substance which we have, for both food and raiment, and for gold, and for silver, and for all the riches which we have of every kind?" Everything we have is because God has given it to us. And all He asks in return is for us to keep His commandments. And then, He will bless us with MORE! We are forever indebted to Him. He is SO good!! We can never pay Him back, but we can pay it forward. King Benjamin taught, "when ye are in the service of your fellow being, ye are only in the service of your God" (Mosiah 2:17). At the start of this new year, I would encourage all of you to think of how you can pay it forward. How can you show your love for Christ by loving others? How can you serve? I promise you that as you faithfully ponder on this and following the promptings you receive, the Lord will bless you. That's all He wants to do. Let Him!! He's just waiting to give you more, you just have to show Him you're ready.

I love you all!! I love this gospel! I love the joy it brings me. I love my family, my friends, our Savior. I love the hope of a new year and all the potential it has. I pray that all of you are striving to make Christ the center of your life and that you can feel His and my love for you. Mucho amor!!
