Week 11 - It's beginning to feel a lot like Christmas

HAPPY HOLIDAY'S FRIENDS AND FAMILY!!!!!! Hope Everyone's Thanksgiving's were superb! I had a lovely, traditional, Hispanic Thanksgiving. AKA the only thing resembling Thanksgiving was a Turkey covered in fire red sauce. haha it was still great!!! This week has been full of ups and downs. But overall pretty great!

Tuesday was probably the most joyous day of my entire life! I have never felt so much pure JOY and it lasted the entire day!! It really hit me that all the Lord wants to give everyone is this feeling of joy. How amazing is that!!! His plan for us is to be happy. He's the best!!!! President Nelson's talk from this past conference is all about the joy the gospel brings. Go read it!! Made me so so happy! During KO we met the happiest person I have ever met in my entire life! Peggy Johnson, a 91 year old woman who is so incredibly happy!! We talked to her for over an hour. She gave us a tour of her cute home and showed us so many pictures of her husband who passed away. She also gave us a ton of hangers that she hand knit covers for. SHE WAS SO CUTE!!!!!!! And she went gambling with 80 cents in nickles and won $8,000 so she bought herself a walk in bathtub because she thought she deserved it. haha she was the best!! Lessons went great as well! I couldn't put into words how happy the gospel made me (partially because what is Spanish, but mostly because I was so overwhelmed with God's love for each of us!!). Benjamin smiled the whole time I was testifying. Made me so happy!!

Wednesday we had District meeting and my DL made pomegranit jello and it was soooooo bomb!! We listened to the audio from Missionary Work and the Atonement. SO GOOD!! Such a good reminder that this work is not about us! Missionary work was never easy because Salvation is not cheap! Oh how I love our Savior and all that He's done/doing/will do for us. So so much love. Something our DL said that really hit me was "we're out here to be someones miracle, there are so many people praying for answers, be their miracle". AHH I just wanna find everyone!! The elect are out there!! We had our last lesson with Benjamin. NOOOOOOOOO PORQUEEEEE?!?!?! Esta bien. Teaching him was such a blessing/miracle! In the 5 days we knew him we taught 5 lessons and committed him to baptism. He is so prepared!! We are so excited for him!! I feel like I'm delivering a little miracle to Chile to some missionary that needs this miracle more than we do. It's all God's work. I just selfishly wish I could see him be baptized. But President Henrie knows the mission president down there (church is true!!!!) and we're suppose to get updates!! And we gave them our emails so they could send us the pictures from his baptism!!! So amazing to think that because the spirit prompted me to knock on a door in California, a boy (and possibly his family) are going to be baptized in Chile in 4 weeks. The gospel is so amazing!! This whole experience has also been a great reminder that we are instruments in the Lord's hands. This is His work, not my own. We're just so lucky that He's letting us serve Him!

Thursday or should I say....Turkey day!!! We started the morning off by running a 5K! Wait what?! I can see the shock on my families faces now haha. We had to make room for all the food! We spent the day making pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and delivering them to members and investigators in our area. It was great! We had dinner at la familia Osorio Garcia. Super yummy!! Super not "Thanksgiving" but it was great!! The YSA Hermanas were there too which was way fun! Felt very grateful for the many blessings in my life!! Hope everyone else had a great Thanksgiving too!!

Friday we had a lunch with all the Sisters/Hermanas in our zone. Way fun!! In the afternoon we had a lesson with a mom and her two teenage sons because she wants them to learn about Christ. It went super well!! Even said yes to baptism! But as we were leaving and they said they can't wait to meet with us again next week but they can't come to church on Sunday because they have to go to their own. Uh oh. haha esta bien. We'll figure it out. We KO'd in a super rich area and one of the houses looked like a castle. So cool!! They had a dragon statue the size of a car in their front yard a ton of dragon stain glass everywhere. We were trying to ring their doorbell (sometimes they have a doorbell outside the front gate) so I was pressing random buttons and I opened their huge gates. We freaked out! haha. Almost went in but it would of been way too creepy haha. For dinner we had pepia (the go to Guatemalan dish) and it was sooooo good! We also watched the new Christmas video again which I love. Everyone go watch it!! It's the first video on mormon.org. Only like 2 mins long and all about Christ. I love it!!! We had a lesson with a less active couple that night and it went super well. They are so sweet!! We went with a Senior Couple that was suppose to be in our ward (they just got switched out last night) and the wife doesn't speak any Spanish so my comp translated for her and it was awesome because it helped me realize how much of the Spanish I was actually understanding! Slowly but surely it's coming!! At least the understanding part. The speaking is still a work in progress haha

Saturday was the first hard day I've had since I got to California. I kept feeling as if we had forgotten someone. As if the Lord was trying to tell me to find someone and I couldn't figure out exactly what He wanted. It was super discouraging and I felt awful. Then it started to rain and was cold and I really missed my mom/fam and it hit me that I didn't even have to be here. So I let myself be sad for a good 30 secs and then told myself to suck it up. haha This work is so much bigger than me. It's so so important!! The day was still hard but it got easier once I remembered that. Hermana Carlson (one of the Hermanas I live with) got super sick and her body wouldn't stop shaking. It has to do with some of her health problems. The whole day I kept nagging her to get a Priesthood Blessing and finally she did! We came home to find the DL and his comp in our apartment and they gave such a powerful blessing. It was amazing. I LOVE the priesthood!! By the time the blessing ended her whole body had stopped shaking and it was so calm. So so amazing!!!

Sunday was great as always!! The less active couple came to church!! I understood a lot more! An old lady I was sitting next to during sacrament meeting fell asleep and woke herself up by groan/moaning in the middle of sacrament. We couldn't stop giggling haha. We met a lot of really nice people during KO and had a lesson with Benjamin finally!! (non Chilean Benjamin). We came in and he wanted to talk about baptism and we committed him to a new date (January 7th) and it was so wonderful!!! He's so excited!! It's so cute!! We can't wait to keep teaching him!!!

This is the last week of the transfer. So so crazy. Time is flying!! Being a missionary is amazing. I love this work and I love my Savior. I want to become a better instrument in His hand every day and always remember that all those around me are children of God. What a beautiful thought. Love you all!! Miss you all!! Hope it's begging to feel a lot like Christmas wherever you are in the world!!! I'm freezing here in Cali! haha MUCHO AMOR!!!
